The RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project has been launched since April 2016 with the subsidy for “Advanced Integrated Intelligence Platform Project (AIP) -Artificial Intelligence/ Big Data/ Internet of Things/ Cybersecurity-.” from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan. The center aims to achieve scientific breakthroughs and to contribute to the welfare of society and humanity through developing innovative technologies.
Geoinformatics Unit will start from January 1, 2018, in the RIKEN AIP. The mission of Geoinformatics Unit is to develop intelligent systems that monitor and assess the state and changes of urban areas and natural environments from large-scale time-series geospatial data. Geoinformatics Unit will study fundamental technologies for geospatial data analysis that can deal with incomplete data, limited training data, and multimodality. The unit aims to contribute to disaster response, infrastructure monitoring, landscape management, and urban planning.
To achieve the mission, Geoinformatics Unit is seeking passionate candidates with active research in one or more of the following areas:
Synthetic aperture radar data processing
Geographic information science
Machine learning
Data mining
Computer vision
