Get a glance 'behind the scenes' and exciting insight into the work achieved so far by the High Impact FP7 BLUEPRINT project. This large scale initiative on establishing reference epigenomes of blood cells has generated new insights into the activation and repression of genes in blood cells of healthy and diseased individuals and contributes to medical research into diseases such as leukemia and diabetes.
What is the link between genes, environment and health? And how can a better understanding of this interaction help us improve the diagnosis, treatment and cure of diseases, such as diabetes and cancer? On the trail of those questions, the European Union launched the large-scale research initiative “BLUEPRINT – A BLUEPRINT of Haematopoietic Epigenomes” (www.blueprint-epigenome.eu) in October 2011. The project set out to further our knowledge of how our genes are activated or repressed, in particular in blood cells of both healthy and diseased individuals.
