Parkinson's Postdoctoral Fellows at Van Andel Research Institute in U.S.A.

Van Andel Research Institute’s P. Brundin Laboratory, under the direction of Patrik Brundin, M.D., Ph.D., has positions available for multiple Postdoctoral Fellows.

The Patrik Brundin lab focus on pathogenetic mechanisms and pharmacological treatment in cell and animal models of Parkinson's disease. They also study cell replacement therapy with stem cells in attempts to repair brains in animal models of parkinsonism. The group's mission is to understand neurodegenerative diseases and develop new therapies that are of benefit to patients and their caregivers.

Recently, the lab been involved in one of the most promising developments for a cure, or at least progress in fighting Parkinson’s disease. A new investigational drug originally developed for type 2 diabetes is being readied for human clinical trials in search of the world's first treatment to impede the progression of Parkinson's disease following publication of the lab’s new research.

These postdoctoral positions are available IMMEDIATELY and are for motivated scientists who meet the qualifications and description outlined below. These fellows will investigate the contribution of genes and the environment to Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis.

Job Functions:

The overall goals of these projects is to study the alpha-synuclein pathology in the context of a Parkinson’s disease rodent model systems. The candidate will use established model systems to determine effects of this mutation. The results from these studies could lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to improve clinical outcomes of Parkinson’s disease. While working with Dr. Brundin and his research team, the candidate will help guide research directions and provide expertise to facilitate the highest level of contribution to reach the project objectives.

Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) provides postdoctoral training opportunities to scientists beginning their research careers. The fellowships are to help promising scientists advance their knowledge and research experience and at the same time support the research endeavors of VARI under the mentorship of a VARI Faculty member.

While this project is currently funded, an integral part of postdoctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application. All VARI Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical and reasonable after hire. Receiving a fellowship award provides recognition for both the fellow and VARI!

Application Process:

Qualified applicants should provide a cover letter outlining research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, and the names and address of three references by clicking on the "Go to application page" button.

If you possess these attributes and desire to help us drive science from the bench to the clinic; while benefiting from a highly generous compensation package; we would welcome speaking with you and encourage you to apply today.

VAI is actively striving to diversify its workforce and strongly encourages qualified individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. Van Andel Institute is an EEO and Affirmative Action Employer.

This position will be open until filled. If you have any difficulty uploading your application or any questions, please email Eric Miller at eric.miller@vai.org.
