Position description

Cells need to carefully control their internal stores of inorganic phosphate, which is both an essential nutrient and potentially toxic. They face a phosphate challenge for several reasons. Growth requires a minimal concentration of this limiting resource because intracellular inorganic phosphate (Pi) is a compound of nucleic acids and modifies most cellular proteins. At the same time, cytosolic Pi may not rise much, because elevated cytosolic Pi can stall metabolism.

Aalto University’s School of Electrical Engineering is seeking candidates at post-doctoral level to help us study multiple aspects of learning, decision making, and control. Research topics include safety in reinforcement learning and learning policies for longer-term tasks. Application contexts include robotic manipulation and autonomous vehicles.

The Graduiertenkolleg 1957 “Adipocyte-Brain Crosstalk” was established in 2014 with the funding from the German Research Foundation. It aims at providing structured doctoral training at the interface of neuroscience, biology and translational medicine. At GRK1957 we study the effects of adipose tissue hormones on CNS function and, in turn, the control of adipose tissue physiology by the brain.
