The Sensor Informatics and Medical Technology (Sensori-informatiikka ja lääketieteellinen tekniikka) research group focuses on the development of probabilistic (i.e. Bayesian) signal processing and machine learning methods especially for health and medical applications. Other applications include positioning and tracking systems as well as industrial measurement and control systems. Although the research is motivated by applications, group’s research also spans development of general statistical methodology as well as theoretical analysis of the methods.

The Wolf Humanities Center awards five (5) one-year Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships each academic year to junior scholars in the humanities who are no more than five years out of their doctorate. Preference will be given to candidates not yet in tenure track positions, whose proposals are interdisciplinary, who have not previously enjoyed use of the resources of the University of Pennsylvania, and who would particularly benefit from and contribute to Penn’s intellectual life.

The Institute of Chemical research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking highly talented Postdoctoral Researchers in the framework of the I2: ICIQ Impulsion programme.

The selected candidate will carry out research into optical methods and measurement systems for plasmonic biosensors.

‍Specifically, the selected candidate will be expected to develop advanced optical platforms based on plasmonic (nano)structures for affinity biosensing and participate in their applications for the detection of biomolecules and investigation of biomolecular interactions related to medical diagnostics.

University of Lübeck is looking for highly motivated candidates for the following PhD projects (supervisors in brackets). Tentative start: May 2020. Earlier start date could be discussed with the PIs in the interview.

PhD Projects

Successful candidates pursue a doctoral degree in the Doctoral Programme in Medicine and Life Sciences. The expected duration of full-time studies is four years and fixed-term contracts can be drawn up for a period of one to four years. The contract’s length depends on how far along in their studies the successful candidates are and when they expect to graduate. Students must accept the position by January 1st, 2020 at the earliest.

String theory is the most promising theory that unifies all particles and forces in nature, including gravity, in a way consistent with the laws of quantum mechanics and relativity. String theory answers fundamental questions about the symmetries of nature, the quantum behavior of black holes, the existence and breaking of supersymmetry, and the quantum treatment of singularities. In string theory all the forces and particles emerge in an elegant geometrical way, realizing Einstein's ultimate dream of building everything from the geometry of space-time.

Four early stage researchers (ESR) with different backgrounds will be trained to face the variability challenges within the field of adult cochlear implantation. Especially, they will focus on those CI adults doing rather poorly with their CI. In order to cover all aspects of the holistic framework, the 4 ESRs will closely collaborate. The 4 ESRs will look beyond the clinical predictors and metrics that are currently being used in the clinical routine.
