Companies are regulated by politics, but they also shape the political arena themselves, whenever they influence politicians and political parties. Moreover, companies fulfill public functions such as providing public goods, regulating their own business activities, or addressing societal problems, like environmental harms. Can this mix of private activity and public responsibility be legitimate, in a democratic society? Aren't corporations given too much political power? Are multinationals different in this respect from other companies?

In the Netherlands, priority is currently being given to eliminating new HIV infections and finding a cure for HIV. In this context, two four year research projects will be conducted. Project 1 focuses on social engagement in HIV cure, the meaningful involvement of people with HIV in that process, and the impact a cure can have on HIV stigma. Project 2 focuses on a regional, tailored approach to HIV prevention in the EuRegio Limburg with German and Belgian border regions for high risk groups such as refugees and men-having-sex-with-men (MSM).

The PhD student will work within the research programme Dynamics of the Durable: A History of Durability in the Visual and Decorative Arts (DURARE). DURARE is funded by the European Research Council, by way of a Starting Grant awarded to principal investigator Dr Marjolijn Bol. You will be based at Utrecht University and will as such also be part of the Department of History and Art History, section Art History.

SCIENTIA FELLOWS is a research fellowship programme in the field of Health Life Sciences launched and managed by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. It is partly funded by the EU Horizon 2020 under the Maria Skłodowska-Curie scheme – Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes (COFUND).
