Eindhoven University of Technology is looking for two strong and motivated students with a background in geometric algorithms for two four-year PhD projects in the general area of geometric algorithms and their applications. The prospective PhD students can define their own research project, in collaboration with any of the potential supervisors. Learning Dynamical Systems is an area closely related to cyber-physical systems as well as real-time big data analytics, and it provides backbone algorithms for digitalization of industry and society. Together with researchers from Uppsala University, and with strong support from the Swedish Research Council, we host the research environment NewLEADS for this core technology with applications such as smart buildings, self-driving vehicles, and self-learning robots. As a postdoc in NewLEADS you will work together with researchers from the two schools.

The Faculty of Science and Technology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has two vacant three-year PhD–positions related to computational discovery of organic ferroelectric materials.

Ferroelectric materials are materials which host a switchable internal electronic polarization. This property makes them important for many technologies, such as non-volatile computer memory and sensors. An issue, however, with conventional ferroelectric materials is that they have high processing costs and often consist of toxic elements.

The Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science (KBM) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has vacant a 3-year PhD position, and a 2-year post doctoral position. The positions are part of the Norwegian Seaweed Biorefinery Platform, a national platform for research on valorization of seaweeds funded by the Research Council of Norway.

These posts are part of the plan to create a new research community for the research initiative ‘Public and private interests: A new balance’, which will also require two (senior) professors and three postdoctoral positions.

Quantum nanophotonics offers new possibilities for quantum communication and sensing. In this project, new devices will be developed to demonstrate single photon detection with new performances and integrated on-chip to realize large/scale integrated quantum circuits, demonstrate detection in the mid infrared and achieve high time resolution. The devices will be implemented in quantum sensing experiments where the quantum states of light will enable measurements beyond the classical limit with particular interest in lidar and bio medical measurements.

As a doctoral student you will be conducting research in a larger project titled Time-Critical Clouds with researchers both from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden). In this project, we seek to ensure latency bounds of key building blocks (e.g., geo-distributed key-value stores) that are used for important societal services (for example, Intelligent Transportation Systems). Your work will entail design, implementation, and evaluation of networked systems for time-critical cloud-based services and networks.

In this position you will develop, in a team, novel CT imaging technology for (1) research to improve extraction of information from CT images, and/or (2) research to improve image-guidance for therapy. Either of the two positions may involve working with CT images of cancer patients, covid-19 patients or preclinical animal images (rodents). Artificial intelligence methods such as deep learning will be a significant part of the projects. Your role will be to develop CT image analysis software for various purposes, help develop novel CT imaging equipment, and perform experiments.
