The work package led by ETH will examine radiocarbon inventories of dissolved and particulate carbon phases in major river watersheds as well as in corresponding receiving (lake) basins. The first work package (ETH PhD #1) will focus on spatial and temporal variability in 14C characteristics of dissolved and particulate carbon species in rivers draining different Swiss ecoregions. The second work package (ETH PhD #2) will examine carbon inventories, residence times and transport pathways as a function of soil and drainage basin properties.

The ELBE postdoctoral fellows program addresses independent researchers on the postdoctoral level, who come with their own research proposal and freely choose which groups to affiliate with. The program provides an ideal springboard to an independent research career in systems biology, theoretical biophysics, computational biology, and related areas.

The Antebi Department for “Molecular Genetics of Ageing” investigates how regulatory networks govern animal health and life span. We primarily use the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans and the turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri as model organisms, as well as cell culture and mouse. The overarching goals are to reveal conserved, convergent mechanisms of longevity, and to understand how immunity, metabolism, and quality control mechanisms cooperate in cellular defense.

The department of Ocean Science and Technology at Hanyang University offers fellowships to outstanding students interested in Arctic/Antarctic climate change and sea ice modeling. Our doctoral candidates contribute to the understanding of polar climate changes through the application of NCAR Community Earth System Model (CESM) and the Los Alamos Sea Ice Model (CICE). These models have already been compiled in a cluster server for efficiency.

Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań: Department of Bioenergetics (Professor Hanna Kmita) and Department of Animal Taxonomy and Ecology (Professor UAM Łukasz Kaczmarek). Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Kent are embarking upon a three-year project funded by the Leverhulme Trust to investigate the theory that London citizens created new programmes of religious education for both the City’s clergy and for literate lay communities that have hitherto gone largely unnoticed by scholarship. The project aims to radically complicate understanding of fifteenth-century literary culture in London and beyond, and the team now seeks to appoint two Research Fellows to join them, one based at each University.
