Computational Science Zurich (CSZ), a joint initiative of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich is welcoming applications for PhD Students. The available positions are offered by the 45 members of CSZ and entail highly interdisciplinary research at the interface of computing and all areas of sciences and engineering.

Two full-time Ph.D. student positions are open in the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.
The work involves use of naturalistic stimuli (movies and narratives) in neuroimaging studies of emotions and cognition in social contexts.

The goal of the PhD programme is threefold: to prepare candidates for a continuing career in teaching and research; to educate a new generation of scholars to produce high-quality independent research; and to equip them with the analytical and problem-solving skills required for a successful career in both the public and private sectors.

Sex chromosomes, their differentiation, and role in speciation belong to the most intriguing questions of evolutionary genetics. It was proposed that comparison of patterns in sex chromosome evolution between male and female heterogametic taxa could be informative for identification of general features of this process. Moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera) represent the most speciose lineage with female heterogamety (WZ/ZZ).

The next PhD Program at CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and LBI-RUD, the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases in Vienna will start in September 2020.

Yeasts are important hosts for production of industrial enzymes and biopharmaceutical proteins. Pichia pastoris is among the most used yeasts for recombinant protein production, and strong efforts have been made over the last years to develop tools for efficient strain development. In this project, we will work on synthetic biology tools to enable rapid strain design for the production of several difficult-to-express proteins.
