Luleå University of Technology is looking for three to four PhD students in Economics within a new Research School at Luleå University of Technology’s Social Sciences Division. Two postdoctoral positions supervised by prof. Zdeněk Sofer are available at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. The candidates will join an international team working on a project funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) and focus on the synthesis of two-dimensional chalcogenides and other 2D materials, their composites and nanostructures, exploration of their applications for electrocatalysis, supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries.

2 postdoctoral positions are available within the Aging research group at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. The group is involved in a wide variety of research projects, including molecular and genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, as well as twin and family studies.

The fellows will become experts on the basic mechanisms of fuel-stimulated insulin secretion, the failure of which is ultimately the cause of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Secretion of the hormone is controlled by metabolism of fuels in the beta-cell. Cellular metabolism generates coupling signals, which impact on ion channels and/or the exocytotic machinery in the beta-cell. The current lesson from the genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of T2D is that most identified gene variants associated with the disease are implicated in in beta-cell function.

The Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt is a world leader in researching the history of law in Europe and beyond. Its two research departments with more than 60 scholars, the unrivalled collections of its specialized library and its numerous national and international co-operations make it the central research hub for a global scientific community investigating the past, present and future of legal regimes.

Funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Programme, the MANIC network offers 15 high level fellowships for joint research on new materials for cognitive applications. The most talented and motivated students will be selected for advanced multidisciplinary research training, preferably starting July 2020.

Norwegian University of Science and Technology has two vacant PhD positions at NTNU’s Department of Biology. The positions are affiliated to the LimnoPlast project: “Microplastics in Europe’s freshwater ecosystems: from sources to solutions” funded by the European Commission. Both positions have a fixed-term period of three years, preferably starting from 01.05.2020.

The positions in detail: The first PhD position will focus on the toxicity leaching from conventional and new plastic materials using a range of in vitro bioassays and high-resolution mass spectrometry.
